First adventure in the Centrafican Republic called up to the 1960 Ubanghi' Shari.'

One day, I don't remember me when, I2ZGC Gianni, in a long qso among Cerro Al Lambro and a small south village of the Centrafican Republic, where at that time I was me, it proposed me to tell for writing of some adventure from me lived in my trips in those forgotten earths as secular missionary on behalf of the Monks Cappuccini of Genoa.

I remained rather confused, it is not easy for a person as me to succeed in transmitting the emotion tried in to see so much desperation and at the same time the serenity' and that people hope tortured by the wars, famines and not for last from the exploitations.

Dear Gianni, has thought (perhaps too much) there but now I’m ready to tell.

1992

All beginning' reading on the Century XIX, a daily of Genoa, of the application of help launched by the well Minister Provincial of the Monks Cappuccini of Genova: Father Vittore Ghilardi. It explained of as pits of vital importance be able to furnish of a generator group a small dispensary of the north of the territory and precisely the mission of  Ndim to the border with the Chad (TT8) of the Nuns Of the Mercy and from the Monks themselves .This dispensary was the only point of reference of a vast territory as it especially regards the sanitary assistance for  children and not only and to be able to use was necessary of the Light at least up to the hours 21.00.

The timid question of help strike me and I tried to also involve the vertexes of the company wher I worked.

Ina  little time I picked up 15.000.000 of liras this ciphers is more' how necessary to be able to purchase the generator group of 40 kw and all the necessary accessories to the installation of it.

Together to the group I sent equipments radio, Antenna, cables that is everything that  could serve to the mission to communicate with other shed missions in the brousse and in the forest and a Yagi Antenna directed toward the convent of St. Bernardino in Genoa where the station IR1CCL is found.

On invitation of  Father Vittore I departed for Africa, with my great friend Luca, unfortunately not more' among us, to install all these equipments getting, directly from the Office of the Telecommunications to Bangui with the Callsign TL8CG and with it the permission to transmit from that country and to start my radiantistic adventure from the Center of africa.

I won't forget  never the moment in which, after the long trip of the material and the necessary time for the installation, we finally turned on and I see " The Light ". The happiness and the emotion of the Nuns, of the Monks and of the guests of the dispensary it was' so great that repay me' of all the works, it made me forget the fear for the dangerousness of the territory and I seem me strongly also the lack for my family.

I also climbed on two bridges radio in VHF so that different missions they were able to always keep in touch among them.

During the stay, in the few calm moments, succeeded with great emotion in launching the first CQ, CQ CQ TL8CG CALLING!!! Getting answered by the whole globe and laboring not few to satisfy everybody.

Turning in long and wide the country taken note of the so many problems and of the it requires' of the various missions all deprived ones of electricity', solar panels and above all of provision of water drinkable principal cause of serious illnesses and death in the population.

After the first travel, so many others followed of it, installing other spar and equipments radio in the various missions of the Cappuccini and other religious team.

To the eve of the departure for the return, I had asked from the Provincial Minister there, if we were afraid the bring us to Genoa a nine year-old baby, very ill, needy of refuge near the hospital Galliera, but deprived of documents to entry in Italy.

This child named Justine, had a great due paunch to a disembowelment and therefore an expectation of almost void life for the difficult intervention that would have had to suffer. This aspect had created more than few problems to its family, because' the people of the village, influenced by the wizard, it marginalized believing possesses from the malignant spirits. Known the situation we accepted without delay and I start' so' a re-entry to a little adventurous.

To rise some sun with a Pickup I load of various household implements, we departed from Ndim to the capital Bangui, Luca and I, sat to the outside to the mercy of possible pellets "wandering "and of the dust redhead, Justine to the inside together with Sister Assunta her companion and  Father Vittore.

During the so many times of travel they were many the looks surprised of the soldiers to the numerous places of block in to see us systematized in that way; us (mangiu') white to the outside and one "black lady" comfortably sat inside, even if my worry had been that to protect from the dust red my precious Kenwood ts 450.

After a brief standstill to the Center of reception of Bangui, finally the embarkation on the flight Air France (I fly weekly) capacity 450 places always complete.

The look of Justine to the sight of the airplane was very frightened, she had perhaps seen someone of it in some small figure crumpled to the mission of Ndim.

After the accurate check of soldiers in order of war and some due obstacle to my Ts450 (old obstacle with a lavish tip!!!) finally in Paris to deep night after 10 hours of flight. Strong fears to the control immigration aware that were committing the crime of clandestine immigration, but old fears hiding the child between me and seen Luca our big builds!.

Finally in Genoa, Hospital Galliera, surgical operation of the Prof .De Martini and of his team on Justine perfectly succeeded, after the convalescence near the Nuns of the Mercy, the children reenters to (a hut of damp straw) her House among her family. ....

From the mission of Ndim, thanks to the radio and the yagi Antenna, Sister Assunta, Sister Giovanna, and Sister Rosanna communicate me that Justine is well, she greets me thankful. Now it is as the other babies.

They are passed around 18 years with other 12 travel full of emotions and  adventures always to lend my opera:  radio bridge, Antenna, radio and other installations.

In Center of Africa Republic, during these 12 travel, there have been three coup d'état, a lot of radios stolen by the Zarghinas, military to at skid and armed all with some Kalashnikovs, from one of these a gust has departed on the three elements of the mission of Bocaranga, a threat to the Monks to make to be delivered the Trees Kenwood knowing that these apparatuses work in continuous tuning for which profits to their operations of guerrilla.

Now we speak of the diploma Award IR1C.

Passing from village in village I have seen children, women and old men that also cross a foot for 30 km to fill rust dry of water (I don't think drinkable) near some puddle.

I believe, that to sensitize the world of the Radioamatours  to offer the parchment of the Award in exchange for a necessary contribution to pick up the enough figure to the construction of a well for the extraction of drinkable water in a village of the "brousse" is a gesture that surely it won't save' Africa but it will bring' some health to this people.

I devote all this to my unforgettable friend Luca, great technician and untiring volunteer, always available to give him to the others.  Thanks Luca
